Out of the blue I began 'hang' when starting Avid. There is no error message but it hangs at the point where the screen says 'initializing audio'. Only 2 things come to mind.
One is Quicktime. I am not running 7.3.1 and that was what I was running when I last used this system. It was always stable with 7.3.1. The other thing that has changed is a set of windows updates.
Can you point me to a link to download a stand alone version of Quicktime 7.3.1? System: HP 8200. All factory components with no extra hardware.

Four gig of ram and windows XP pro. Avid xpress pro 5.7.2 Thank you.
Reporting back as promised. It took longer than I thought.
I did download the quicktime link. The Avid program still 'hangs' when initializing audio. I see others are having this problem with 5.8.2. So Quicktime does not seem to be the culprit. I guess I will have to start removing Windows updates.
I have no recollection of the windows updates installed when Xpress pro worked (did not hang when initializing auidio). Anyone (or does Avid) have any counsel on this (which Windows updates/how far back to go?) Using Xpress Pro.
